Rebels in Amhara have taken up arms in opposition to Ethiopia’s navy.
Battle has returned to Ethiopia – this time in Amhara, the second-largest area within the nation.
Many Amharas say they’ve been sidelined by the federal government in Addis Ababa, which is dominated by the Oromo ethnic group.
Rebels in Amhara – often called Fano – helped the federal government in its two-year conflict in neighbouring Tigray.
Now they’ve taken up arms in opposition to the navy. The rebels have in flip been accused of making an attempt to overthrow the federal government.
So, what’s driving this battle? And the way’s the federal government addressing the area’s long-simmering grievances?
