The annual J’ouvert parade celebrating Caribbean heritage kicked off in Brooklyn on Monday morning.

Over 2 million individuals are anticipated to take part within the competition, CBS Information reported.

Festivalgoers donned horns and indulgent costumes as they danced/twerked to Caribbean music.

The West Indian American Day Parade, one in all Brooklyn’s greatest celebrations, captivated tens of hundreds on Monday.

The 7-hour carnival began at 6 a.m. Monday with J’Ouvert, which suggests “dawn” in French. It marked the unofficial begin of the 56th annual parade from Jap Parkway to Grand Military Plaza.

Hundreds of spectators lined the sidewalks to absorb the sights and sounds of steelpan and calypso bands in elaborate costumes marching down Jap Parkway.

Colourful costumes, island flags, Caribbean music and the scent of flavorful meals stuffed the air.

In line with the New York Post, 5 individuals had been arrested on gun costs on the J’ouvert competition on Monday.

There was heavy police presence as a result of the J’ouvert celebrations are liable to violence.

Three individuals had been shot throughout an altercation close to the competition on Monday night.

“One individual was shot within the again, one other individual was shot within the buttocks, and a 3rd individual was shot within the finger, in response to police. All three individuals had been anticipated to outlive, authorities stated.” PIX 11 reported.
