With 25 minutes left in Saturday’s Main League Soccer Jap Convention Last, the Columbus Crew discovered themselves in a seemingly insurmountable 2-0 gap. No staff had ever pulled off a multi-goal comeback in a league convention last, and no staff was much less suited to take action than Columbus — an outfit that scored the overwhelming majority of its regular-season objectives within the first half.
“Tonight, my spouse advised me that after we have been 2-0 down, my son was crying,” Columbus head coach Wilfried Nancy told the media.
Nancy’s son needn’t have nervous. Columbus threw statistics out the window and pulled off an epic 3-2 extra-time victory.
“My spouse advised him, ‘You can’t give up,'” Nancy said. “On the finish of the sport, my son advised me, ‘Hey, Dad, good lesson.'”
