What police later recognized as far-right protesters then took to the streets of Dublin, setting automobiles ablaze and clashing with police.
“What we noticed final night time was a rare outbreak of violence,” Police Commissioner Drew Harris informed reporters on Friday. “These are scenes that we now have not seen in many years.”
He stated that 34 individuals had been arrested.
Police blamed a “lunatic, hooligan faction pushed by a far-right ideology” for the violence that broke out after a small group of anti-immigrant protesters arrived on the scene of the knife assault.
The “riotous mob” induced “large destruction” in Dublin, police stated, with some wielding metallic bars. Rioters smashed home windows and looted outlets as they stormed by town.
The Dublin Fire Brigade on Friday morning stated firefighters have been persevering with to dampen down smoldering automobiles.
Police stated they weren’t in search of anybody else concerned within the knife assault and have been “preserving an open thoughts” about any motive.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar informed reporters stated that these concerned within the riots “introduced disgrace on Eire.”
